Steel grade referred to as steel number, is the name of each specific steel product, is a common language for people to understand steel. China's just the number of representation generally use hanyu pinyin letters, chemical element symbols and numbers combined method of representation.
Below we specifically introduce the alloy steel material in the elements and symbols meaning.
1. the two digits at the beginning of the steel number indicates the carbon content of steel to the average carbon content of a few ten thousandths, such as 40Cr.
2. the main alloying elements in steel, in addition to individual micro-alloying elements, generally expressed in several percent. When the average alloy content <1.5%, the steel number is generally only marked with the element symbols, and do not indicate the content, but in special circumstances easily confused, after the element symbols can also be marked with the number “1”, for example, steel “12CrMoV” and “12Cr1MoV”, the former chromium content of 0.4-0.6%, the latter for 0.9-1.2%, the rest of the composition of all the same, when the average content of alloying elements ≥ 1.5%, ≥ 2.5%, ≥ 3.5% ......, in the element symbols content should be marked at the end, which can be expressed as 2. 3. 4 ...... etc. accordingly. For example, 18Cr2Ni4WA.
3. steel vanadium V, titanium Ti, aluminum AL, boron B, rare earth RE and other alloying elements, are micro-alloying elements, although the content is very low, should still be marked in the steel number. For example, 20MnVB steel vanadium 0.07-0.12%, boron 0.001-0.005%.
4. steel should be added after the steel number “A” to distinguish it from general steel.
5. special-purpose alloy structural steel, steel crown (or suffix) represents the use of the steel symbol. For example, riveting screw special 30CrMnSi steel, steel number expressed as ML30CrMnSi.
6. on the low alloy steel with high strength, should be labeled in the steel number. For example, 16Mn steel, used for bridges, the special steel for “16Mnq”, car beams, the special steel for “16MnL”, pressure vessels, the special steel for “16MnR 16MnR” for pressure vessels.
